Intralesional steroid injection
Intralesional steroid injection treatment involves administering a small amount of steroid medication (such as triamcinolone) directly into the affected area or skin lesion, by using tiny needle injections immediately under the skin surface.
It is a simple and effective procedure which is usually well tolerated.
Common conditions which can be treated by intralesional steroid injection include-
Alopecia areata
The injections reduce the inflammation at the hair root areas to promote hair regrowth
Keloid and hypertrophic scars
Regular injections to flatten and soften these scars, and to relieve symptoms of itch and pain.
Thickened skin of chronic eczema (prurigo nodules and lichen simplex chronicus)
The injections are helpful to reduce the thickness and improve the itch of these skin lesions of chronic eczema.
Acne cysts
Small acne cysts can be flattened by tiny injections.
