Cryosurgery is a type of treatment which uses liquid nitrogen spray to freeze skin lesions on the skin surface. By using the extremely cold temperature of liquid nitrogen, such surface skin lesions or abnormal tissue gets destroyed and removed in the process, with minimal downtime and without the need of any anesthesia injection.
Common skin lesions on the skin surface which can be treated with cryosurgery include viral warts, skin tags, seborrheic keratosis (age spots), actinic keratoses (sun-damaged skin growths), molluscum contagiosum.
It is also a treatment option for certain types of superficial skin cancers on the skin surface (superficial basal cell cancer, Bowen’s disease or squamous cell cancer-in-situ).

What do I expect from Cryosurgery treatment?

The procedure is minimally invasive and generally well tolerated without the need for any anesthesia injection.
The liquid nitrogen is sprayed directly to the skin lesion from a hand-held Cryogun, or applied with a cotton-tipped applicator for several seconds, and the treatment repeated for a few freeze-thaw cycles.
Post-cryosurgery treated areas will generally heal well with simple local wound care. There may be some skin discolouration, light or dark patches arising from the liquid nitrogen application.
